Author: R.J. Palacio
Reviewer: Eli L Imagine you are starting 5th grade, the first grade of middle school. You are a little nervous, right? Now, imagine you have a facial deformity called mandibuloffacialdysostosis. Basically - your eyes are a little lower, your ears are squished in, and your upper lip runs into your squashed nose. For August Pullman - that is his real situation. He starts his first year of school, EVER, with a facial deformity. There are many challenges - particularly a mean kid named Julian who is always saying upsetting things to August. However, a one day, a girl named Summer sits down and has lunch with him. She is always kinder to others than is necessary.
