Reviewer: Kim L If you have ever had trouble fitting in this book is for you. This story is about a boy named Jason who has autism. It is only a matter of time before something he does goes wrong, like pushing over a pottery wheel, or getting in trouble in art class. Jason writes to get piece of mind. He posts his writing on a Storage Board. When he meets someone online, he finally feels like he has a friend, whom he calls his girlfriend. But, then people pick on him for that too! I really recommend this story to others because of the message it sends about the theme of needing to fit in.

Reviewer: Maddie L Have you ever had the option to go to a comedy contest? In this story, Jamie Grimm was motivated to be in such a comedy contest. His uncle told him to. I loved the part of the story when Jamie went to New York City. He was rolling in his whelchair on the sidewalk when he saw a rat...I won't tell you the rest though! If you love great books, that also teach you about the importance of acceptance, pick up this one! Author: Jeff Kinney
Reviewer: Tyler P This is a realistic fiction book that I selected because I have loved the previous Wimpy Kid books that I have read. In this story, Greg wants to play video games all summer but his mom does not let him. So, he goes off to the country club where many adventures take place. This story is about being thankful for what you have and I highly recommend it. Author: R.J. Palacio
Reviewer: Eli L Imagine you are starting 5th grade, the first grade of middle school. You are a little nervous, right? Now, imagine you have a facial deformity called mandibuloffacialdysostosis. Basically - your eyes are a little lower, your ears are squished in, and your upper lip runs into your squashed nose. For August Pullman - that is his real situation. He starts his first year of school, EVER, with a facial deformity. There are many challenges - particularly a mean kid named Julian who is always saying upsetting things to August. However, a one day, a girl named Summer sits down and has lunch with him. She is always kinder to others than is necessary. Author: Donna Gephart
Reviewer: Emma W I honestly thought this was a great novel. Main character, David Greenberg, is scared of starting middle school and on top of that, gets into a fight with his best friend. David's mom leaves home, without a phone, to live on a farm in Maine. There are even more things that happen in this story that make you feel bad for David. I recommend this book if you like reading about Middle School. There are many funny times, but also some sad ones as well. Author: Karen Harrington
Reviewer: Nicholas Adams This realistic fiction story is about Sarah and her family. She and her dad keep moving to different homes as soon as the neighbors learn that Sarah's mom, Jane, lives in a mental hospital because she tried to drown Sarah and she killed Sarah's brother, Sam. When Sarah and her father moved to this new town and the people find out about them, Sarah does not want to leave the neighborhood because she likes the people in this new town. Now, I cannot tell you anymore. You have to read this book to find out what happens next. Author: Jerry Spinelli
Reviewer: Sydney K In today's world we are faced with many different issues, choices, and obstacles that we will endure no matter what the age may be. When it comes to choices, we need to be true to what we believe and what we have learned. We are all different, and we need to be able to express who we are without judgement. That is what I took away from this inspiring story by Jerry Spinelli. We need to make others happy and do good deeds without the glory and praise of it. Stargirl is a new student at Mica High School, but this is a name she has given for herself, not her real name. Leo, a new friend, is intrigued by her and doesn't understand her style or why she does certain things. She was always going about being happy and making others happy. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good life lesson story. I really enjoyed this book. Author: Mike Lupica
Reviewer: The Big Field This is a sports story about little league baseball. The reason I chose this story is because I like sports and even though I am not a huge fan of baseball, this story was good. The story is about when Hutch and Darryl, two main characters, get into a fight during baseball practice. The reason why they get into this fight is because Hutch is jealous that his dad, Mr. Hutchinson, likes Darryl more than himself. This story is all about teamwork. I recommend this book to those who like reading about teammates and sports. Author: Ingrid Lee
Reviewer: Faith Ramsey I chose this book because there was a dog on the front cover and it looked interesting to me. This is an animal story but fits in realistic fiction. Imagine, your dad coming up the stairs, swinging your bedroom door open and dropping a wet bundle on your bed. And this wet bundle has a wet nose, a thumping tail, and a white heart on its ear. Dog Lost is about a boy named Mac and his dog Cash. I recommend this story to anyone who loves true, hopeful books about dogs and their owners. Author: Jack Gantos
Reviewer: Alex K This realistic fiction story is a sequel to the novel, Dead End in Norvelt. I loved the first book because it was humorous and a murder mystery. Imagine - you fall into a septic tank and then learn that you are going to New York with your 90-year-old neighbor, who has arthritis, just to go see Eleanor Roosevelt's grave because that same neighbor loved Mrs. Roosevelt for creating Norvelt. Jack's summer is a disaster due to this and more. I recommend this book to you if you love humor and murder mysteries. |
