Author: Herman Melville
Reviewer: Bradley P. This is a great book about killing whales and life at sea. Melville had a fantastic way with words. The cover is honestly what made me pick it up. Ishmael needs money and he wants to go to sea, so he joins a whaling ship called The Pequod. When he makes a Native American friend named Queequog, the adventure starts right away. After packing for a three year sail, they leave. They meet the ships revenged captain Ahab, who had his leg bitten off by Moby Dick, the great white sperm whale. I really enjoyed this marvelous book. If you like adventure, you will like this story.

Reviewer: Haley C This story is a classic book that has talking animals and is about friendship. Fern saves the smallest pig from being killed and keeps the runt in a box for a week. Her mom said that the pig was getting too big so they had to build a large wooden box under the apple tree in the yard. After keeping the runt for a few weeks they name him Wilbur. Wilbur meets a spider named Charlotte and they become friends. I recommend this to anyone who likes animal stories. It is now one of my favorite stories. Author: Francis H. Burnett
Reviewer: Holly H This book is a historical fiction novel with a little mystery to it too. Can you imagine what it would be like to live in a mansion with locked doors and secret gardens? Mary Lennox, a ten year old, has just this experience. She is a young girl whose parents died from cholera. She is sent to live with her uncle at his manor and becomes friends with two boys while there. Colin is bedridden and sick most of his life, and his friendship with Mary shows how friends can help one another become stronger. I recommend this book if you like reading about characters close to your age. |
